How do I participate in The Urban Monastery?

This initiative was birthed out of our local congregation at Kanata Baptist Church in Ottawa, Canada. For those outside our local context, you are welcome to be a part of this journey as well. Whether you live locally or not, this is an opportunity for you to be a part of a covenanting fellowship walking together on this adventure, especially in this era of virtual community and engagement. We believe that the circumstances are ripe for such a time as this to augment our spiritual walk and practice a more steady regimen.

You are strongly encouraged to join with two others who would agree to walk with you. This covenanting community needs and relies on connecting with others to experience the full weight of God’s grace. We were never meant to walk alone. If you join singly we will do our best to find others for you to relate to.

When you sign up, you will be included in our community contact list and receive resources and invitations to Urban Monastery events.

Please join by filling out this form. Add others who may join you if applicable.

If you would like to discuss setting up such an initiative in your own local context please drop Doug a line at urbanmonastery@kbc.ca and begin the conversation.

Seeking God’s Face, by Phil Reinders

There is no cost to join The Urban Monastery. The only expense incurred is to get a copy of the book we will read together.

Find it locally or here on Faith Alive.

Why the “Urban Monastery”

It happens to be a domain purchased many years ago and seems to fit our purposes.

Urban – We live in the midst of our city urbanized culture with all its benefits and distractions and desire to flesh out how God desires us to live in every area of our work, family and common life.

Monastery– Expresses the desire to spend time apart and free from the world’s grasp, entering into a community that is steadfastly counter-cultural yet engaging the world from God’s perspective.
